I bought this computer for my wife, so she could do her thing (e-mail, facebook, and such) and have her own computer. The reason i picked this model is it recieved a good report from Consumer Reports. What you get for the price is worth it and have had no problems so far. The best part of the deal was the shipping which came a few days before it was promised.

Bought this as a lightening deal for $399 (plus tax... bummer). I'll admit, taking it out of the box I was a little disappointed. The casing is a textured dull black and feels like a cheap plastic to the touch. But, once I turned it on, I decided to keep it as the screen is incredibly clear and bright (which was a pleasant surprise as I was trying to hold out for a laptop with LED- this has LCD), setup was easy, pro-loaded software was great and overall everything runs very smooth. In researching the processor prior to buying it, this Intel is very highly rated to be in a computer at this price point and better than the processor in any other budget laptop I've been able to find. It comes preloaded with the Toshiba book reader program (essentially Kindle for your computer), Norton 30 day trial and basic Microsoft office. The 10 key on the keyboard is also very nice to have.

Runs very quietly as well, I can barely hear the fan even when it's on. It does turn on and off somewhat frequently, but it's so quiet I don't notice anymore. Haven't had any problems with heat either- the bottom of the laptop feels only mildly warm even after being on for a few hours. To summarize:

I have had this computer for the past week, and just love it. I got it to replace my PC and needed it for school. I wanted something with a large screen, a full keyboard and powerful. I wasn't looking for a beautiful laptop, but I got one, with the black and red accents it is a gorgeouse device.

I didn't have any problems with getting it set up on my network, or having programs that I didn't need pop up all over the place like I have read on other reviews. It has been smooth to work with and just an excellent laptop.

As you may have read with other reviews, this laptop is very large, and yes even knowing this it did surprise me when I got it. Because of its size it is heavier then your average laptop or notebook, but not manegeable. So if you are looking for something to carry out with you, you need to be aware of that. I don't carry it around it will sit in my bedroom on my desk, but I do like the option that I can take it with me anywhere if I need to.

The picture for movies is prime...as good or better then my LCD TV. The sound is off the charts, just love that it has the Harman/Kardon speakers and they truly are crisp clear and loud.

I have not had any problems with the power connecter as some of the other reviews have suggested, possibly Toshiba could have fixed that problem, because the connector fits nice and snug and has never been loose or fallen out.

I did get a stand with a cooling system for it, because it does heat up and the fans keep it cool. I got the Cooler Master NotePal Ergostand Notebook Cooler R9-NBS-4UAK got it here on amazon as well. It is perfect for this size laptop and it includes 4 USB ports, I usually have it on while I'm working and I don't even hear any of the fans not the Laptops or the stand's.

Where do I start, I have been researching laptops for the last 6 months, looking at specs etc. I needed to replace my laptop that has become outdated. I bought a Dell 5 years ago that was just too slow to watch videos, download anything or keep up with all of the new software upgrades. I wanted a laptop with speed, good memory, decent video graphics, large enough hard drive so that I wouldn't be changing it soon. Plus I wanted an expandable computer in terms of memory so that I wouldn't be limited at a really good price.

It is a 15.6 inch, 2.3G processing speed and 4G memory, with 320 Hard drive it is fast, you can view most of the HD videos clearly they finally load for me on You Tube..lol I need one also for work at home, since I use it for a lot of number entries. This is one of the best if not the best keyboards w/10 key numeric pad. I have large fingers and it is comfortable and easy to use it is set up just like an adding machine for accountants, or bookkeepers. There is just enough texture and grip of the keys for fast and easy typing. Another thing I loved about it was the gray interior it shows less visible fingerprints and dust for those who don't like the glossy black of most Toshiba's out there.

It was easy to set up I was so worried about how long it would take. I had already had a wireless network so all I did was boot up created a password and sign on, the connected to my wireless network and I was on the net. Yes to some it might have too much bloatware(unnecessary programs) but for those who are not as computer savvy it includes all the files to get you up and running but you need to update them from time to time. The camera is so easy to use and Skype is already set up.

When I bought it was a much better deal it is bright and easy to use for night viewing, especially if you watch movies or download movies online. I have just had it for a month but as long as you have a good registry cleaner program to clean up Windows 7 it should continue to run fast. One downer is I wish Toshiba would come with the Operating System disks included it is irritating to have to copy them on your own.

Overall you cannot get most of the specs like a large comfortable full size keyboard, with a 15.6 inch TruBrite screen, webcam 1.3 pixel, 320G Hard drive, ATI graphics, labelfish for your CD/DVD, 2.3G AMD processor with 4G memory for this price you cannot compare. Plus it is lightweight easy to move from room to room. So far very happy with my purchase.

I use my laptop for professional programming and IT work. I absolutely love this laptop! It is wide because of the number key however this makes plenty of room on the desktop. It is wide screen display, resolution 768 x 1366 which other reviewers have said is a bad thing however I think that it is a great resolution. This laptop is fast and is loaded. The HD screen is crisp and clear, the sound is wonderful for a computer.

The only down side I can think of is it shows all fingerprints, but unless your OCD then it shouldn't be an issue.

I have done a lot of research on buying this laptop and believe me for the price the Toshiba line is top dog. Don't waste your money on a Dell, they are flimsy terribly built and are loaded with technical issues.

Worth every penny when it comes to looks, performance and display.
I've owned a Dell Inspiron 6400 before this, so my entire review is influenced by my personal experience with that machine.
The Dell I owned was a highly customized laptop with some of the best specs available to me 3 years ago. But the battery sucked. (Only time will tell how good the battery is on this TOSHIBA)
The one thing I miss in my Toshiba is Bluetooth, since I'm used to transferring pictures and taking back up from my phone all the time, over bluetooth. A conenience definitely, but its absence in Toshiba is definitely not a Limitation.

Pros:
- The Display is brilliant. At its highest setting, the screen looks bright enough to be able to read even in bright sunlight in a park (not that I do it, but its just an example to give you an idea of how bright it is)

• The Multi-touch fingerpad is quite useful once you get used to it. You can tweak its settings from the properties, and I have my 'Right Mouse Button', 'Middle Mouse Button', two finger scrolling, pinch zoom, picture rotation, all set on my fingerpad. I barely have to use the buttons under the finger pad. A lot of other settings enable me to control my mouse pointer like a well seasoned chef playing with a chef's knife!
• The processor, albeit a tad noisy, does perform the way it is supposed to. I mean hey, its a Quad core, and so I tested it out by having Firefox and Chrome with 4-5 tabs each open while I played Left 4 Dead. I could never do this on my Inspiron (Core 2 Duo with a 2 GB RAM, but here on TOSHIBA it was a breeze!!! (Touchwood!)

• The battery lasts me a good 2.5 - 3 hours with lots of applications running, some videos, and gaming (all of this at 50% screen brightness) which I think is pretty decent.
• I like the little button above the fingerpad which lets me lock/unlock my fingerpad; so if I'm merely typing something, I can avoid mouse interference when my wrist or palm brushes over it mistakenly, by simply pressing that button and locking the mousepad.

Cons:

• The fingerpad is placed on the left half of the computer, so using it with my right hand is a little inconvenient. I am ambidextrous so it isn't too big a deal for me, but still I wish it was a little more to the center.
• There's no depression or demarcation of the fingerpad from the rest of the body (except that it gets a little rough textured) so my fingers tend to run out of the fingerpad when using it to scroll or do fancy stuff.
• A little noisy at times. The fan starts running and doesn't give up... It doesn't happen all the time, and its not a big problem to me, but its just something I noticed. (Considering the fact that there are 4 processors at work here, I think high fan work is expected)
• Definitely a finger print magnet.
• The keyboard and mousepad buttons seem a little delicate and too plastic-ey!
• Lack of Bluetooth!
• Loads of useless software comes pre-installed, but you can always remove it, so its not a major problem to me.

Summary:
Overall, I think this is a very good machine, perfect for someone who is not into extreme computing or super rich!
Good price, more than a decent performance, and good battery life.
I definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to buy a nice processor at a nice price!

The reason I've given it 5 stars despite a not too short list of cons is because none of those cons are a deal breaker to me, nor do they even remotely outweigh the pros of this product.

omg this is the best B4 chrismas present ever. i had looked at laptops in local stores and other web sites. and finally choose this one from here.. i had gotten a ACER netbook in june of 09 wen i finished high school, but wanted a bugger screen and a better performance quality.

Wow, where do I start?? Well, I should have bought the 4 that Walmart had in stock the day I was there. Instead I ONLY bought two of these AMAZING laptops. I am beyond pleased with this purchase. 

The processor speed is insanely fast! I can run multiple programs that require a heavy load on the AMD chip. I am very very pleased. This computer does EVERYTHING I need it to do instantly. The only problem I have is that I could have bought 4 of these and I didn't. I have one still in the box I am saving for my Daughter who starts college Fall 2012. 

I will give it to her a week before school starts so she can familiarize herself with it. I will probably pull it out of its new packaging next week. (Feb 1, 2011) to make sure everything works just fine, then I will package it back up and save it for her. The peace of mind I have is that I ONLY paid 278, plus I bought a 3 year warranty from Walmart, that even covers accidental damage. Thats AWESOME!!! Folks you cant go wrong on this computer.
